Atkins Diet Recipes: Low Carb Breakfast Strawberry Smoothie

by Admin

***Join the Atkins Diet Video Facebook fan page -bit.ly & My Low Carb Blog – www.atkinsdietgeek.com *** In partnership with FaveDiets ( http ) recipe site, I wanted to respond with another breakfast suggestion or frankly a drink you could have in between meals as a snack or recovery drink. You will have to be at Ongoing Weight Loss phase though to have this drink. Feel free to change up the fruit to your liking. Blueberries which are slightly higher carb are also a great addition. A high quality zero carb whey protein powder would also reduce the overall carbs as well. I’ll be making an upcoming video on yogurt, but this smoothie features a quarter cup of Greek plain yogurt, which is 9g of carbs for one cup. Compare this amount to regular plain yogurt that is between 16-25g of carbohydrates per cup. Ingredients: 4 Strawberries, partially frozen 1/4 cup yogurt 1 cup almond milk 2 TBS Ground Flax 1 scoop Vanilla Whey Powder 2 drops liquid Splenda or one packet Blend until smooth. Nutrition Info: (1 serving) 220 Calories; 3g Fat, 12g Carbs (6g Fiber), 1g Protein For more free healthy recipes, cooking tips and tutorials go to www.FaveDiets.com

@wishalis The video is called “Atkins Diet – What about Yogurt on a low carb diet?” So the longer answer can be found there (it was uploaded about a month ago), but the shorter answer is if it contains live active yogurt cultures (not simply made with) and just cream on the ingredients label, it likely is only 4-6 carbs per cup according to a scientist’s research.

For the Vanilla Ice Cream (assuming the recipe I uploaded here), with that one I would not add any more sweetener and half protein.

Can you please let me know the carb calculation in the Greek yougurt like you mentioned. I was not able to see that future video about the Greek yogurt. Also, how about adding that vanilla ice cream in one of your other videos instead of the Greek yogurt? What would you suggest the recipe to be with the vanilla ice cream? I mean…..how much of additional Splenda and vanilla whey powder is needed (since the ice cream already has some vanilla extract). BTW….I love the recipes that you show!

@EllaBella1099 No problem, I’ll be making another recipe tonight that should be another good breakfast recipe. Glad I could help. :-)

@topnotchjanitor Why they think 40-90g of sugar would be healthy is what I’ll never understand. I am glad you like this recipe.

topnotchjanitor July 23, 2011 at 10:27 pm

I love this smoothie, its my breakfast staple on weekdays. I went to Jamba Juice thinking there was a legal smoothie there, but there isn’t.. most have upwards to 40-90g of sugar!! shocked! and this recipe goes to show you can have a low sugar/low carb alternative.

@buckhysen I can understand for those lactose intolerant people, but the glycemic load of the almond milk (1g) and yogurt (2g of carbs) in this recipe is not that much. It is lower than the strawberries in the recipe, and certainly lower than the pineapple and oranges.

It is certainly up to you where to get the carbs from, but I think the protein the yogurt and protein powder this gives you is welcome as well.

buckhysen July 23, 2011 at 11:44 pm

I often make smoothies but always think they are ruined by adding milk or yoghurt. As a diabetic I cannot have too many carbs so I usually make up this.
Add 1 Banana, a can of mandarins (In natural juice) and 3 pineapple rings (With a small amount of natural juice into a blender with some ice. Altogether that is only about 25 carbs.
Blend it all and serve. It’s really refreshing and surprisingly sweet, and certainly wakes you up in the morning.. & is not ruined by having milk or yoghurt in it.

@cmphillips1968 There is no aspartame in the recipe. As for half a banana, that would essentially be the carb load I would have almost an entire day. That is not the way I would want to start the day.

cmphillips1968 July 23, 2011 at 11:58 pm

@IDMWEIGHTSIDM
I agree about the Aspartame, thought the same thing when I saw him adding it, if you need sweetness why not half a bannana surely that couldnt do too much damage….

@ChocolateAndMaxiPads While when you comment on my lifestyle as unhealthy, you might expect some sort of response. As for carbs for energy, I have ran multiple marathons (26.2 miles) on a low carb diet. Fat fuels well my runs and workouts.

If your opinions were informed I might have cared, but at the moment, you know what they say about opinions and everyone having them. Coming by a low carb or Atkins Diet video and commenting as you did could also be perceived as rude.

ChocolateAndMaxiPads July 24, 2011 at 12:24 am

@bowulf Could care less about your annual physicals you get..Just saying :) … btw FOR ME It’s about having the RIGHT carbs..you need carbs for energy right? … you don’t have to BASH my screen name and be rude because i don’t agree with your diet.

bowulf July 24, 2011 at 12:42 am

@ChocolateAndMaxiPads Yep, you’re right as compared to eating chocolate off tampons or maxipads, low carb is not healthy. However in compared to any rational eating program, it is the healthiest thing I have ever eaten. I have excellent annual physicals, and my cardiac risk factors have disappeared.

ChocolateAndMaxiPads July 24, 2011 at 1:35 am

low carbs or no carbs is unhealthy.

Moonlah July 24, 2011 at 1:51 am

It’s better to leave the strawberries frozen so it makes the smoothie colder and a bit slushy :) And to those who are putting down Splenda, everything has it’s up sides and down sides. Splenda is not meant to be a long term thing, but something to help you curb the cravings for sugar while trying to lose weight. Too much sugar and a diet high in processed carbs is FAR more dangerous than Splenda could ever be….he only put TWO DROPS in! Calm down. LOL

3molly3 July 24, 2011 at 1:58 am

@bowulf ok, thank for the advice x

bowulf July 24, 2011 at 2:48 am

@3molly3 If I was sensitive to sweeteners, I too would be cautious and careful about consuming them. However just as others’ sensitivity to peanuts, eggs, dairy doesn’t affect my decision on whether or not to personally consume them, I can only go by reasonable scientific evidence, experts’ opinion, and personal anecdotal evidence. That evidence says that 3 acceptable artificial sweeteners per day is fine.

3molly3 July 24, 2011 at 3:01 am

@bowulf i stoped all sweeteners about 3 months ago and feel great for it, i would go days thinking i was gonig to have a heart attack for no reason feeling really bad, and was getting bad sleep paralysis it all when away after stoping the sweeteners…

bowulf July 24, 2011 at 3:52 am

@yob771 Hey if you want to educate, educate. If someone wants to make pithy comments, well find somewhere else to play.

As for research, I have done it. Look at my video “acceptable sweetener” video. I deal with the topic of acceptable daily intake and how much is acceptable there. If you want to rail against the evils of aspartame as he did, you might actually want to pick a recipe with it.
