Lots of variety, clear instructions and a working table of contents – not bad!,
This is by no means a “fancy” cookbook filled with sophisticated recipes. Lots of them call for things like canned soup or frozen vegetables. That’s okay by me, as this is the kind of food my mother used to serve when I was a child, when she could find the time to cook. As an added advantage the ingredients for recipes like these are always easy to find, so you won’t have to search for anything exotic – just hit the supermarket.
There’s enough variety here to keep you interested, along with the old stand-bys like fried chicken and an “easy” chicken pot pie (which basically means frozen veggies again). I recognize the “Blue Cheese and Apple-Stuffed Chicken” as a Pillsbury recipe, but it’s a good one, so no complaints there.
If I have one quibble, it’s that the book is priced a bit high for what it is. There are no photographs other than the one on the cover, no ancillary material, and as I’ve mentioned the recipes don’t exactly break new ground (although some of them look mighty tasty). I do think this book would be a solid value at $2.99.
